Hardy Fish for New Tanks

Not every fish can survive in a new tank where water conditions are fluctuating. But hardy fish like Platies and Swordtails will gracefully endure the cycling process. These peaceful livebearers are easy to care for, and they are good community fish. Although not schooling fish, they like to be kept with a number of their own kind.

Platies (Xiphophorus maculates) are non-demanding livebearers that will likely spawn in home aquariums. As one of the most common fish, they come in many color varieties.

Swordtails (Xiphophorus helleri) are one of the classic aquarium fish. They are easy to care for and live well with other fish. Only males have sword-like tails while females have rounder bodies. Livebearer other than mollies and guppies.
